、14/04/1999General useFOREWORD This document is equivalent to the RENAULT document D41 1126. It must not be modified without prior consultation with the Normalisation Department of this Group. It is in conformity with the agreement reached between this Group and PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN in APRIL 1999.1. O

、BJECT AND FIELD OF APPLICATIONThe object of this mthode is to define the conditions for the measurement of the load propagating an incipient tearing by means of a tensile test machine. This mthode applies to fabrics and plastic coated fabrics where the tear is propagated according to the direction of

、 the longitudinal constituents of the test specimen. It is not valid when the material is destroyed by slipping, unweaving of threads or delamination. It may also applies to knitted fabrics and plastic coated knitted fabrics, to plastic sheets as well as to textile, plastic or rubber carpets. In thi

、s case, the tear may be propagated in the direction where it started or at a bias towards one edge of the test specimen. The method is used for dry and wet tests.2. PRINCIPLEThe method consists of measuring the force required to propagate an incipient tearing, by means of a dynamometer.3. EQUIPMENT3.

、1 TENSILE TEST MACHINE WITHOUT INERTIAto meet the following conditions :a recording device for the load - elongation curve,a constant linear speed of the moving jaws equal to 100 mm/min 10 mm/min,jaws for fixing the test specimen without damaging it or letting it slip (for example screw tightened ja

TEST SPECIMENS4.1. FORM AND DIMENSIONSThe test specimens must be in the shape of a rec

、tangle of 200 mm x 50 mm.For fabrics, take test specimens 210 mm x 60 mm and bring them back to the final dimensions by fraying. For knitted fabrics, cord cloths and coated textiles, plastic sheets and carpets, cut out the test specimens to the final dimensions.Cut out the beginning of a tear 80 mm l

、ong starting from the middle of the smaller side of the test specimen parallel to the longer side of the test specimen.4.2. DIRECTION AND ORIENTATIONBy definition, the test specimens called “longitudinal” (or warp) are those for which the smallest dimension is in the longitudinal direction (or warp)

、 of the material : for these the tearing load results in a break of the elements providing cohesion in the longitudinal direction. In the same way, the test specimens called “transverse” (or weft) are those for which the smallest dimension is in the transverse direction (or weft) of the material. In

、the case where the material is showing an orientation (for example knitted fabrics or coated knitted fabrics), it is necessary to start the tearing in both direction of the longitudinal direction or transverse direction; for example, the beginning of a tear parallel to the longitudinal direction wil

、l be either in the forward direction of the loom or in the opposite direction and the beginning of a tear parallel to the transverse direction will be either from right to left or from left to right. In the case of moulded materials, the test specimens called “longitudinal” shall be taken perpendicul

、ar to the centre line of the vehicle and the test specimens called “transverse” shall be parallel to the centre line of the vehicle.4.3. NUMBER OF TEST SPECIMENSTake 5 test specimens from the longitudinal direction (or warp) and 5 test specimens from the transverse direction (or weft). In the case o

、f an orientated material, defined above in paragraph 4.2., double the number of test specimens.4.4. SAMPLINGIn the case of materials in rolls, the test specimens must not be taken less than 0,15 m from the selvages (or edges) and less than 3 m from the heading or end of the piece.4.5. CONDITIONING4.

、5.1. DRY TESTSThe test specimens must remained at least for 24 h in the conditioned enclosure (3.2.) according to the specifications in the cahier des charges, so that the air can freely have access to the two faces. Carry out the tests in an identical atmosphere.4.5.2. WET TESTSThe tearing tests ma

Immerse the test specimens for 2 hours in a distilled water bath at the temperature of the enclosure (3.2.)PSA PEUGEOT CITROEN TEXTILES-PCT-PLASTIC SHEETS-CARPETS - TEARINGD41 11263/5OR : 01/01/1978 B : 14/04/1999General useand the weight is equal to approximately 20 times the weight of the material. If the material is difficult to wet, use an aqueous solution to 1% wetting agent such as ethyl alcohol at
