The situational teaching method was de

2、veloped by British applied linguists in the mid-nineteenth century . It is a teaching method that teachers create vivid circumstances which are closely related to the book knowledge to help students improve their interest and learn on their own initiative. This is a bold reform in English teaching m

3、ethod. The traditional teaching method is that students accept information passively from teachers. Now they can regain the initiative under the situational teaching method. This method plays a more and more important role in English classroom teaching. As English major, I was attracted by the situa

4、tional teaching method when I first got in touch with this topic. I know that this teaching method was developed from the 1930s to the 1960s. In todays classroom teaching, especially the English classroom teaching, its getting more attention and application. Its an important and useful way to learn

5、English for pupils, middle school students, even college students. The situational teaching method is not only important to students, but also important to the development of our English teaching system. Its worth studying and discussing. Before I decided to do this study , I had read some researche

6、s and theses about the situational teaching method in English classroom teaching. The views and studies on this topic are wonderful. They describe this teaching method entirely and deeply . Through studying the situational teaching method, we know that we should take advantage of its merits and avoi

They all agree that this teaching method is wonderful and useful in bringing students enthusiasm in

8、to English study . And they dont deny that it has some problems. Zhang Guanghua ia a lecturer of Xian Railway V ocational and Technical Institute. In his essay Situation Teaching Method and Higher Vocational English Teaching (2011), he expresses his view point about how should teachers use the situa

9、tional teaching method in English classroom teaching. He thinks that teachers must speak English in classes. Using the internet and varied training aids is necessary. Some English presentations or songs will also improve students learning interest. I think he is right. Students like active and vivid

10、 circumstances rather than rigid ones. If teachers could use situational teaching method, students will become the main characters in English learning. Sun Lianying is a teacher in Daqing Construction Secondary Technical School. In his work Analysis on Situational Teaching Practice in Senior High Sc

11、hools English Teaching (2010), he raises some issues which should be paid more attention to in the situational English teaching. When setting the “situations“, teachers should think about the students practical knowledge level and the specific language environment. He also thinks the situations shou

12、ld fit in with the textbook. In my opinion, its not necessary to make the situations the same as the textbook. Without the limitation of textbook, students can learn more information freely . Xia Wang is a student in Hunan Normal University . In his thesis The Research of the Situational Approach in

13、 Primary English Teaching (2010), he summarizes some problems of the situational teaching method in English classroom teaching. 14、are not the same as the students. I think teachers should cater to the needs of students as far as possible. Then, students will be interested in learning English. Research questions This paper tries to answer the following questions: Q1: Whats the situational teaching method? Q2: What should teache

15、rs do in English classroom teaching? Q3: What are the differences between the situational teaching method and the traditional one? Q4: Why cant the situational teaching method be the only method in English teaching? Expected resultsThe situational teaching method has caused attention from the late 1

16、9thcentury . Now, in classroom teaching, especially in English classroom teaching, it is used more than before. People have realized that only by this way can our students learn on their own initiative. In fact, the situational teaching method is an advanced teaching method with some limitations. My work aims to study it objectively. Though more and more teachers realize the importance of this teaching method, its still difficult to carry out in every English class. If we can sol
