INTRODUCTION The purpose of this API s

8、tandard is to establish a uniform procedure for the evaluation of emission performance of process valve stem packing. The testing program will provide a basis for the comparison of the emissions and life cycle performance of process valves. Use of this standard assumes the execution of its provision

9、s is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced personnel because it calls for procedures that can be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. This standard refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and sa

10、fety at any stage of the procedure. Type Testing of Rising Stem Valves Equipped with Flexible Graphite Packing for Fugitive Emissions 1. Scope This API standard specifies the requirements for fugitive emission type testing of rising and rising- rotating stem valves equipped with packing previously t

11、ested in accordance with API Standard 622. Packing shall be suitable for use at service temperatures 20F to 1000F (29C to 538C). The type testing requirements contained herein are based upon elements of EPA Method 21. Acceptance criteria are subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the end

12、user or when superseded by local ordinance. 2. Reference Publications The following standards contain provisions that, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this API Standard. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to

13、 investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. Applicable reference standards: API Standards 598, 600, 602, 603, 622, ASME B16.34, and EPA Method 21. 3. Terms and Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following definitions shall apply

14、. 3.1. Ambient temperature Temperature that is between 60F to 110F (15C to 40C) 3.2. Auxiliary connection Drain(s), vent(s) or sealant injection port(s) 3.3. Bolting torque The amount of twisting or turning effort (expressed as N-m, ft-lb, or in-lb) required to tighten a threaded fastener. 3.4. Dyna

15、mic leak measurement Measurement of leakage taken while the stem is moving. 3.5. EPA Method 21 A leak check method established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for performing emissions measurements on equipment such as valves, pumps, and flanges. 3.6. Emissions Gaseous leak

16、 given off by a piece of equipment used in reference to volatile organic hydrocarbons (VOCs) and expressed in parts per million volumetric (ppmv or ppm) for methane and mass flow for helium. 3.7. Leakage Measurable amount of test medium escaping from the valve. 3.8. Mechanical cycle A motion of the stem simulating the movement of a valve obturator from the fully closed position to the fully open position and returning to the full
