Everyday Etiquette for Office Life What makes a good boss? Its up to 1employers and managers to initiate the kin

2、ds of relationships they want with their employees and also to set the tone 2for employees behavior. If the bosses are rude or officious 3with customers, then employees will be, too. If bosses treat employees and customers with fairness and respect, this, too, will reverberate 4 . Lots of bosses, th

3、ough, arent sure whats expected of them. Here are ten rules that will help a boss create a supportive atmosphere: 1.Take the lead. Bosses are supposed to set examples in all areas, from their work to their manners. Make sure you do this. 2.Show respect for all employees, regardless of gender, race,

4、religion -or personality. 3.Respect employees privacy. You may have to search an assistants desk in his absence for a paper you need, and you certainly have the right to do so. But this doesnt give you the right to leaf through 5a checkbook 6 or what is obviously personal correspondence 7 . 4.Give f

5、requent compliment and praise. People perform better and more efficiently when they are encouraged, and your job as the boss is to be the main encourager. 5.Make sure your criticism is fair. Its easier to accept graciously 8 . 6.Respect others autonomy 9 . Put together a good team and then let them

6、do their job. Infantilizing 10employees by looking over their shoulders 11at every move often makes for a belligerent 1 2, tense office environment. 7.Be available 13 . If possible, leave your door open at least part of each day. Answer your own phone. Be open to 14ideas, even when theyre critical o

7、f how you run things. 8.Use the name your employees prefer. If your female secretary is elderly, or even if not, use the appropriate title(Miss, Mrs, or Ms.) 9.Show small courtesies 15 . Youre the one with the power, thus it behooves 16you to extend small courtesies to make your employees more comfo

8、rtable. When an employee comes into your office and needs to talk to you, ask her to sit down. When the employee leaves your office after a long talk, stand up to say good- bye. Shake hands and give a gracious welcome to an employee whos just returned from a vacation or from some other absence 17 .

9、10.Dont make employees your servants. Employees are there to work, not to do your every beckoning 18 . 10、上得到体现。然而许多雇主 并不清楚自己该遵守什么样的行为规范。以下十条准则会帮助雇主营造一种互 助的氛围。1.身先士卒。雇主要在各个方面树立榜样,从工作到举止。一定要做到这 一点。2.尊重所有的雇员,不管其性别、种族、宗教信仰还是个性如何。3.尊重雇员的隐私。你也许不得不在一位雇员不在时翻他的办公桌找一份 你需要的文件,你当然有权这样做。但是这不等于你有权翻阅人家的支票簿或 私人信件。4.经常称赞、表扬雇员。当受到鼓励时人们会工作得更好、更有效。作为 雇主,你的工作主要是鼓励他人。5.注意批评要公正。公正的批评容易让人体面地接受。 6.尊重他人的自主权。组织一个好的团队,然后放手让他们自己行事

11、。不 要把雇员当小孩,监视他们的一举一动,那样会造成一种敌对的、紧张的办公 气氛。7.让雇员有机会接触你。如果可能,每天将你办公室的大门敞开一会儿。 接自己的电话。虚心对待各种意见,甚至是批评你管理方式的意见。8.用雇员喜欢的方式称呼他们。如果你的女秘书比你年长,或即使不比你 年长,使用合适的称呼(小姐、夫人或女士)。9.小事着眼,礼让他人。你是有权之士,因此你应该在小事表现出谦让, 让你的雇员感到自在些。当一位雇员进入你的办公室要和你谈话时,让她坐下。 当雇员和你长谈之后要离开你办公室时,起身道别。当一位雇员度假或外出一 段时间返回公司时,要与其握手,亲切地表示欢迎。 10.不要把雇员当作你
