3、from,tell them apart,限制性定语从句与非限制性定语从句,一、限制性定语从句,若定语从句对先行词起限制作用,使该词的含义更具体、更明确,这种定语从句就称为限制性定语从句。这类从句与主句间的关系十分密切,之间不能用逗号隔开,且不能省略,否则句子的意义就不完整。如:,Do you remember the teacher who taught us English at middle,school?你记得中学教我们英语的那位老师吗?,A dictionary is a book which gives the meaning of words.字典是解释词语的书。,He is t

4、he man (whom) I want to see.他就是我要见的那个人。,二、非限制性定语从句,若定语从句跟先行词的关系并不十分密切,只是对先行词作补充说明,且从句用逗号与主句隔开,即使去掉从句也不影响主句意思,这种定语从句就称为非限制性定语从句。如:,Mr.Zhang, who came to see me yesterday, is an old friend of,my fathers.,张先生是我父亲的一位老朋友,他昨天来看我了。,The novel, which I have read three times, is very interesting.这本小说很有趣,我已经读了

5、三遍了。,三、常用非限制性定语从句的情况,1当先行词是专有名词或被物主代词、指示代词修饰时,,其后常用非限制性定语从句修饰。如:,Charles Smith, who was my former teacher, retired last year.,查尔斯史密斯去年退休了,他曾经是我的老师。,My house, which I bought last year, has got a lovely garden.我,去年买的那幢房子有个漂亮的花园。,2当将整个主句作为先行词对其进行修饰时要用非限制性定语从句,这时从句谓语动词要用第三人称单数。如:,He seems not to have gr

6、asped what I meant, which greatly,upsets me.他似乎没弄明白我的意思,这使我很心烦。,3关系代词 as 表示“正如”时,用于引导非限制性定语,从句,但应注意以下两点:,(1)as 引导的非限制性定语从句位于句末时,一般可以和,which 互换。如:,She is extremely popular among the students, as/which is common,knowledge.她在学生中很受欢迎,这是众所周知的。,(2)as 引导的非限制性定语从句可以放在主句的前面、中间或后面,而 which 引导的定语从句不能放在句首。如:,As
