2、people . But Undoubtedly there are so many differences between Chinese and Western culture, such as manners, language and so many others. There may be some problems if we do not pay carefully attention to the difference between Chinese culture and western culture .I make some summarize about the dif
3、ferences ,here is the list :West:1. Western culture is based on individualism rather than on mass (collectivism). For instance, in the US, you always talk about individual rights, instead of placing the whole society above your own self. This is clearly different in China where a country, society or
4、 family are placed above your own self.2. Western culture is adventurous and exploration based. Westerners like to discover new things, invention and expand outwards. For instance, bungee jumping is considered adventurous and common in western culture, but you will probably find no-one doing such a
5、thing in China.3. Western culture is based on science, which attempts to resolve people and natures relationship.4. West uses law to resolve people and peoples relationship. You can never find law well-established in China. For 2000 years, China is a land thats based on human relationship rather tha
6、n law.5. West uses god and religion to resolve human and spiritualism relationship. In case of problems with your own self, you just pray to god.6. A culture that expands and develop outwards.Chinese Culture:1. A culture based on masses (collectivism). People placed country and family above your own
7、 self.2. A culture that is based on humanism and people3. To resolve the relationship between man and nature, the Chinese attempts to fuse the human and heaven as one. (天人和一)4. To resolve people and peoples relationship, Chinese uses ethics and tolerance (中恕之道)5. To resolve human and spiritualism, C
8、hinese emphasizes internal cultivation (修身养性)6. A focus on balance and mean. By mean, it means middle way. You dont go into extremism. Peace is always honored.7. Pay homage to heaven and earth, as well as bearing a remembrance to the homeland. (敬仰天地,思乡怀土 ) This was accorded to the fact that Chinese
9、had been a farming civilization and therefore will be more prone to remember their land.8. A culture that expands internally rather than outwards.3. 12、h Western people in our daily life .When help happen between families members ,most Chinese people think that this is their own obligation ,no need to thank or be thanked .However ,western people do not think so .They all expect polit expressions like “please ” “Thank you ”,etc .When conversation ha
13、ppen between people meeting for the first time ,many Chinese people tend to ask about age ,marital status and even salary .these are open conventional topics .Knowing a persons age helps them use appropriate terms of address ,such as Lao Wang Xiao li or kin terms such as uncle aunt ,etc .And Chinese
14、 people pay a lot of attention to family life ,so naturally talk of family members features as a common topic .As to salary ,since there is a a national system of salaries, people usually dont consider it a secret and they talk about it openly.But in western , weather and sports are common topics. 15、ome taboo questions: age, marriage and salary. These are considered too private or too personal to talk about when first meeting someone.There are so many differences between Chinese culture and Western culture that if you do not learn something youll make jokes when communicating .As a College scho
16、ol student ,especially your major is language ,youd better understand deeply about some matters needing attention .I think it is important to our Chinese people to communicate normally with those people who have different culture .But in normal life most Chinese people do not know the the polite words when communicating .Its necessary to be manners to foreigners .For exam
