After Moscow, New York and finally Madrid were (3) _, it came down to just two, and London beat Paris by 54 votes to 50 at the IOC meeting in Singapore.Paris had been favourite throughout the campaign, but

6、e International Olympic Committee has the honour of announcing that the Games of the 30th Olympiad in 2012 are awarded to the city of London.(Sound of cheering and applause)PETER LLOYD: British reserve was briefly abandoned, as the London team exchanged tearful hugs, high fives and then sober handsh

7、akes with the stunned men and women of the Paris team. It had been a day of consecutive presentations from the five (7) _, followed by a voting process that seemed to last no more than 15 minutes. Moscow was first to go, followed by New York City in the second round and Madrid in the third. The fact

8、 that the fourth and final round was between Paris and London came as no surprise since both had been regarded as frontrunners in the final weeks of campaigning. But the final tally underscored the closeness of the race. It was London by just four (8) _. Londons Mayor, Ken Livingstone.KEN LIVINGSTON

9、E: We thought it would always be close, but when we walked in there were just three photographers in front of me and the English spokes minister. And on the other side of the room, in front of the (9)_ there were about 50 and all these cameras, and we thought theyd been tipped off, theyd won, so we

10、thought wed lost until Jacques Rogge said. And so Im always going to remember this day in Singapore as one of the best days of my life, in such an up and such a down all day long.PETER LLOYD: After the announcement, the Paris team went into hiding. Jacques Rogge offered commiserations to the losers,

11、 but declared sport had been the proverbial winner.JACQUES ROGGE: Besides London, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Games are the winner. I would like to tell you that we are very, very pleased with the victory of London a high quality bid. People we trust, people we know will (10)

12、 _I must of course also show all my respect and gratitude for Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow.PETER LLOYD: It was first time lucky for London in the contest of bidding to host an Olympics. Although it has twice staged the Games before in 1908 and 1948, on those occasions the city stepped in at th
