1、 全国英语演讲比赛论文:“21 世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛曹丰演讲稿的语篇连贯分析【摘 要】连贯被认为是语篇分析中不可缺少的一部分。根据衔接理论,连贯起到连接句子和段落的语义和功能的作用。本文从衔接理论的角度分析第十一届“21 世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛冠军曹丰的演讲稿的连贯性。分析结果发现:这篇演讲稿运用了恰当的衔接手段,语篇具有很好的衔接性,体现出流畅、简洁、逻辑和连贯的特点。【关键词】全国英语演讲比赛 曹丰演讲稿 语篇连贯分析 introductionhalliday and hasans cohesion theory is widely accepted as one of the ap

4、f many audience. the college students, who are contestants in the english speaking competition, they are addressors. the audience, including judges, teachers and students, are the addressees.secondly, the speech is prepared in advance but will be delivered orally. so it shares both the characteristi

5、cs of spoken and written discourse.thirdly, the speakers are required to deliver a speech on a certain topic. it could be about society, culture, ecology, tourism, college life and so on. they need to defend their ideas with convincing examples, logical reasons and supportive evidences. they try to

6、convince the audience and then to win their support. cohesion theory1cohesion and cohesion theorycohesion, an important terminology in text linguistics, was first put forward in 1962 by halliday. in 1976, halliday and hasan published their bookcohesion in english. after the publication of cohesion i

7、n english, the word “cohesion” became a formal term in text linguistics and the book was regarded as a symbol of the establishment of cohesion theory.the cohesion theory had been studied by several linguists before the term cohesion was introduced into the field of linguistics. the first linguist to

8、 have studied the cohesive phenomenon is the father of modern linguistics, de. saussure (1959). in 1915, he puts forward the term “associative relations” to name a linguistic phenomenon that a word could always evoke things associated with it in one way or another. nevertheless, he fails to fully il

9、lustrate the phenomenon, not to mention the notion of cohesion.it is firth(1957)who has further discussed this phenomenon using the term “collocation”. he holds that readers of listeners may be able to “know a word by the company it keeps”. in his opinion, the meaning of a lexical item can be interp

10、reted with the reference of its context. and a lexical items collocation is sometimes indispensable for readers or listeners to make out its meaning. firth still fails to make a systematic and comprehensive study of the linguistic phenomenon.it was in 1976 when halliday and hasan firstly proposed th

11、e five types of cohesive devices that the systematic theoretical framework of cohesion finally came into being. they define cohesion as a semantic concept. it is “a semantic relation between an element in the text and some other elements that is crucial to the interpretation of it”.2hallidays viewpo

12、ints of cohesion and coherencehalliday defines a text in terms of cohesion and coherence: “a text is a passage of discourse which is coherent in these two regards: it is coherent with respect to the context of the context of situation and therefore consistent in register; and it is coherent with res

13、pect to itself, and therefore cohesive. neither of these two conditions is sufficient without the other, nor does the one by necessity entail the other.” here halliday makes it clear that one condition of forming a text is attributed to cohesion and therefore one of the criterions for coherence will

14、 necessarily depend on the effectiveness of cohesion in a sequence of words.3the types of cohesionhalliday and hasan put cohesion into two categories: grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. grammatical cohesion includes reference, substitution, ellipsis and conjunction. lexical cohesion includes
