1、- 1 - YolandaAbout Les MiserablesI spent several months finally finishing reading this novelLes Miserables .Its one of the most famous novels in the French literature as well as a representative work of Victor Hugo.I closed the book and the miserable world of this novel seems to appear in front of m
2、y eyes.But the love and goodness lighted up all the book and took me to a bright world from this darkness world.In the preface,Hugo pointed out “As long as the social restrictions caused by laws and customs still exist, the human society would be turned to be a hell and people will suffer from inevi
3、table disasters. If we couldnt get rid of the following three issues existing in this centurymen are getting down because of poorness, women are turning to be degenerate because of starving, children are becoming weak and helpless because of pervasive darkness of the world”.In the peace society,we l
4、ive a quiet life.But in 19th century,the God made a fun of a goodness person who named Jean Valjean and gave him a miserable world and unfair destiny.Why such a good man had been relentlessly playing tricks on fate from Gods punishment?Why even a man did a great deal of good deed but by once a wrong
5、 thing will never return to a good man?Thats all for the sake of the social contradictions.The story strongly tells us the fact that the tragedy people are suffering is exactly the tragedy of the whole society.Jean Valjean born in a poor family and his father died in his childhood.Because of the str
6、ess of life,he stole a piece of bread and was put into prison for 19 years.Then,his prison term was extended for escaping from jail.After Jean Valjean escaping from prison,nobody was willing to help him even looked at him with strange eyes.He didnt even have a place to stay overnight and even a dogs
7、 was willing not to accept him.When Valjean was in despair,a virtuous bishop took him in church.The old man won many peoples respect and love with his kindness. I still remember what he said that this door does not ask the names of the men came in, but to ask him if he has pain. Do you have pain?If
8、you are hungry and thirsty, here will be your home.Such a humane man!The bishop used his love to influence a convict who was just out of prison.He washed Valjeans soul and reflected the mercy of people.From then on,Valjean decided to be About Les Miserables - 2 - Yolandahonest and kindness and he di
9、d it.Valjean experienced a number of setbacks in his life.Because of his criminal record,he was sometimes misunderstood by people. A police named Javert also didnt forgive Valjean,but was moved by him.To error is human.Why people can not forgive Valjean like the virtuous bishop with kindliness?Could
10、 it be said that it is impossible to forgive a man who made mistakes?Its unfair and unconscionable.Jean Valjean did not give up hope of life for the fate of injustice.Because of bishops enlightenment,he improved himself and devoted himself to unreservedly help the poor.In Monterey, people affectiona
11、tely call Valjean father Madeleine.As a mayor,he made this poor city prosperous.He treated others kindly,constructed lots of hospitals and schools and helped a host of poor people.Afterwards,Valjean was arrested and forced labor in a ship.Because he saved a sailor,he fell into the sea.And then later
12、,he valiantly fighted in the bullets.He had no children,but he adopted an unfortunate girl who named Cosette.He carefully took good care of her as his own daughter.Thats Valjeans life which was full of frustration.Corresponding wih the dark and ugly social phenomenon,thats a heart so kind and selfle
13、ss.In order to make some strangers dont be hurt,Valjean should stand and walk again and again risk,even willing to pay a life of their owe.Although Jean Valjeans life was full of misfortune,he was tenacious enough to overcome all the difficulties that he faced.He is a great father,a charitable mayor
14、 and a brave hero!But a good heart may not earn good rewards. Finally,pathetic Jean Valjean passed away in the company of Cosette and Marius.He didnt want to buried himself in the specified place, just a plot of land in casual and didnt mark it.The man devoted his life to others, but didnt want to b
15、e remembered by others.After reading this novel, I was deeply moved.I thought that the class society was cruel to the poor and was mournful to the ordinary people.In order to against social injustice,they made great contribution and put their effort and passion into.What impressed me most was Jean V
16、aljeans kindness and tolerance.When Enjolras found out Javert and let Valjean kill him, but Valjean loosened him and let him go yet.I am very confused that the chase of Javert made Valjean scared for a long time but he didnt seize this opportunity to get rid of the evil man.Till the end of the novel, Javert realized his fault and the chaotic soc
