IamalsohonoredtosharethisnightwithPresidentCarter,whohasinspiredtheworldwithhisworkforpeace,democracy,andhumanrights.AndwithAlGore,myfriendandpartnerforeightyears,whoplayedsuchalargeroleinbuildingtheprosperityandprogressthatbroughtAmericaintothe21stcen
3、tury,whoshowedincrediblegraceandpatriotismunderpressure,andwhoisthelivingembodimentthateveryvotecountsandmustbecountedineverystateinAmerica. TonightIspeakasacitizen,returningtotheroleIhaveplayedformostofmylifeasafootsoldierinthefightforourfuture,aswenominateatrueNewEnglandpatriotforpresident.Thestat
4、ethatgaveusJohnAdamsandJohnKennedyhasnowgivenusJohnKerry,agoodman,agreatsenator,avisionaryleader.WeareconstantlytoldAmericaisdeeplydivided.ButallAmericansvaluefreedom,faith,andfamily.WeallhonortheserviceandsacrificeofourmenandwomeninuniforminIraq,Afghanistanandaroundtheworld.版权所有 Weallwantgoodjobs,g

6、osbad,butwhatisthebestwaytobuildthesafe,prosperousworldourchildrendeserve. The21stcenturyismarkedbyserioussecuritythreats,seriouseconomicchallenges,andseriousproblemslikeglobalwarmingandtheAIDSepidemic.Butitisalsofullofenormousopportunitiestocreatemillionsofhighpayingjobsincleanenergy,andbiotechnolo
7、gy;torestorethemanufacturingbaseandreapthebenefitsoftheglobaleconomythroughourdiversityandourcommitmenttodecentlaborandenvironmentalstandardseverywhere;andtocreateaworldwherewecancelebrateourreligiousandracialdifferences,becauseourcommonhumanitymattersmore. Tobuildthatkindofworldwemustmaketherightch
8、oices;andwemusthaveapresidentwhowillleadtheway.DemocratsandRepublicanshaveverydifferentandhonestlyheldideasonthatchoicesweshouldmake,rootedinfundamentallydifferentviewsofhowweshouldmeetourcommonchallengesathomeandhowweshouldplayourroleintheworld.DemocratswanttobuildanAmericaofsharedresponsibilitiesa
9、ndsharedopportunitiesandmoreglobalcooperation,actingaloneonlywhenwemust. Wethinktheroleofgovernmentistogivepeoplethetoolsandconditionstomakethemostoftheirlives.RepublicansbelieveinanAmericarunbytherightpeople,theirpeople,inaworldinwhichweactunilaterallywhenwecan,andcooperatewhenwehaveto. Theythinkth
10、eroleofgovernmentistoconcentratewealthandpowerinthehandsofthosewhoembracetheirpolitical,economic,andsocialviews,leavingordinarycitizenstofendforthemselvesonmatterslikehealthcareandretirementsecurity.SincemostAmericansarenotthatfartotheright,theyhavetoportrayusDemocratsasunacceptable,lackinginstrengt
11、handvalues.Inotherwords,theyneedadividedAmerica.ButAmericanslongtobeunited.After9/11,weallwantedtobeonenation,stronginthefightagainstterror.Thepresidenthadagreatopportunitytobringustogetherunderhissloganofcompassionateconservatismandtounitetheworldincommoncauseagainstterror. Instead,heandhiscongress
12、ionalalliesmadeaverydifferentchoice:tousethemomentofunitytopushAmericatoofartotherightandtowalkawayfromourallies,notonlyinattackingIraqbeforetheweaponsinspectorsfinishedtheirjobs,butinwithdrawingAmericansupportfortheClimateChangeTreaty,theInternationalCourtforwarcriminals,theABMtreaty,andeventheComp
13、rehensiveNuclearTestBanTreaty. Nowtheyareworkingtodeveloptwonewnuclearweaponswhichtheysaywemightusefirst.Athome,thePresidentandtheRepublicanCongresshavemadeequallyfatefulchoicesindeed.ForthefirsttimeeverwhenAmericawasonawarfooting,thereweretwohugetaxcuts,nearlyhalfofwhichwenttothetoponepercent.Imint
14、hatgroupnowforthefirsttimeinmylife. WhenIwasinoffice,theRepublicanswereprettymeantome.WhenIleftandmademoney,Ibecamepartofthemostimportantgroupintheworldtothem.AtfirstIthoughtIshouldsendthemathankyounoteuntilIrealizedtheyweresendingyouthebill. Theyprotectedmytaxcutswhile: Withholdingpromisedfundingfo
15、rtheLeaveNoChildBehindAct,leavingover2millionchildrenbehind Cutting140,000unemployedworkersoutofjobtraining 100,000workingfamiliesoutofchildcareassistance 300,000poorchildrenoutofafterschoolprograms Raisingoutofpockethealthcarecoststoveterans Weakeningorreversingimportantenvironmentaladvancesforclea
16、nairandthepreservationofourforests. EveryonehadtosacrificeexceptthewealthiestAmericans,whowantedtodotheirpartbutwereaskedonlytoexpendtheenergynecessarytoopentheenvelopescontainingourtaxcuts.Ifyouagreewiththesechoices,youshouldvotetoreturnthemtotheWhiteHouseandCongress.Ifnot,takealookatJohnKerry,JohnEdwardsandtheDemocrats. Inthisyearsbudget,theWhiteHousewantstocutofffederalfu
