1、My Review on: Matchstick Man Matchstick Men is a 2003 American drama film directed by Ridley Scott. Based on Eric Garcias novel Matchstick Men (2002), the motion picture stars Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, and Alison Lohman.s. In the film, Roy and Frankie are partners in con, ripping off everyone who
2、crosses their paths from college kids to home making women to greedy men. But Roy is also suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Frankie hooks him up with psychiatrist Dr. Klein so he can get the pills he needs. Dr. Klein in turn hooks Roy up with a daughter he never knew he had. Angela,
3、fourteen, is eager to have a dad and wants to learn all about his job. Pretty soon shes helping. Pretty soon Roy wants to give up all his tricks in order to gain custody of her, but Frankie convinces him they should play the con game one more time . just one more time.However ,just after this last c
4、on game,Roy find that he is cheated by his parter and his “daugher”,his all money was stolen .He is involved in a big con game that was designed for him .At this moment,Roy just dont know what to do and he feels desperate.This is not the ending of the film.After a duration,Roy live a completely diff
5、erent life.He find a normal job and he marrys again with a women he makes acquaintance in supermarket and he finally has his own baby.Whats more,he could really forgive Angela when they come across in the furniture store. Matchstick Men may not have been a box office success (compare it to the total
6、 gross of National Treasure Cages next film and Kingdom of Heaven Scotts next film), but it certainly is one of the better-crafted and better-acted films to be associated with either of these. I was beginning to wonder if Cage could ever repeat a performance like what he did in Leaving Las Vegas. Wh
7、ile his obsessive-compulsive con-man may not be the disaster along the lines of a suicidal alcoholic, he comes close with the impact he makes on the viewer. This could easily have veered into caricature, but Cage creates a creditable and believable obsessive- compulsive. When you first see this movi
8、e,perhaps you may think that this could be classified as a comedy, but it has an awfully bittersweet quality to it which makes the movie difficult to categorize with any ease. The characters of Roy and Angela are real enough to cause the viewer to have a vested interest in their ultimate fate, as th
9、e movie takes numerous twists & turns. In a word,MATCHSTICK MEN is one of the best film I have seen. It is fast, full of twists and cons, cleanly and cleverly plotted, and peopled with characters who, while not brilliant, are sturdy enough to hold up their ends of the film. Angela especially will keep you reading. For me, the ending was a complete surprise and it left me thinking the whole film through again from a different angle. I found it a resounding and fitting wrapup for a film of cons, hinted at but unexpected. MATCHSTICK MEN is a treasure I couldnt recommend more highly.
