5、,2.Here,as many as 230 million butterflies spend the winter. asas意为“与一样”,两个as之间可加形容词或副词的原级;也可加“many+复数名词”,“much+不可数名词”或“形容词+a/an+单数名词”,还可以在asas前加twice,half等词表示前后者倍数或分数关系。asas的否定形式为not as/soas。 spend为及物动词,意为“度过,花(钱/时间)”,常用于固定结构:spend time/money(in)doing sth.花费时间/金钱做某事;spend time/money on sth.在某物上花费时间

6、/金钱;spend time with sb.和某人一起度过时光,句子的主语应为人,spend的过去式和过去分词都是spent。,3.The butterflies that return to the south are the great-great grandchildren of the butterflies that left for the north. that return to the south和that left for the north都是定语从句。 leave for意为“动身去”。leave意为“离开”,是位移动词,可使用现在进行时表将来;leave与表示一段时

7、间的状语连用时,应改为be away(from)。,4.When they begin to travel north in spring,the females lay eggs. 本句中的travel为动词,原意是“旅游,旅行”,此处意为“迁徙”。 本句中的north为副词,意为“向北方”,也可说:travel to the north,此时north为名词。 lay eggs意为“产卵”。 【注意】lay的过去式和过去分词为laid,现在分词为laying。,5.But in Mexico,people cut down the trees that the butterflies ne
