1、metaphor,It calls one thing by the name of another. These two things have a striking likeness in a particular aspect. There are not such linking words as “like”, “as”, etc. The compared thing is replaced directly by the other. Its an implied simile. Eg. The imperialist and all reactionaries are pape
2、r tigers.,The comparison in metaphor may be implied in the use of nouns, adjectives, or verbs. Eg. A. nouns: 1. Life is a leaf of paper white. 2. All the world is a stage. And all men and women merely players. B. adjectives 1. There was a stormy discussion at our last meeting. 2. John has won golden
3、 opinions through his justice. 3. He has the microwave smile that warms another person without heat.,C. verbs 1. a bright idea suddenly struck me. 2. crowds of villagers lined the street to welcome the distinguished visitor. Some of-phrases are metaphors. Eg. 1. He had to work in the hell of a fertilizer factory. 2. He was a tyrant of a landlord. 3. She is a kitten of a girl. 4.
