2、ngible aspects of culture.,In 2001, UNESCO made a survey among States and NGOs to try to agree on a definition, and the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was drafted in 2003 for its protection and promotion.,Definition,Intangible culture is the counterpart of culture wh

3、ich is tangible or touchable, whereas intangible culture includes song, music, drama, skills, crafts, and the other parts of culture that can be recorded but cannot be touched and interacted with, without a vehicle for the culture. These cultural vehicles are called Human Treasures by the UN.,Signif

4、icance,According to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the intangible cultural heritage (ICH) or living heritage is the mainspring of humanitys cultural diversity and its maintenance a guarantee for continuing creativity.,Significance it also provides for f

5、unds to be voluntarily collected among UNESCO members and then disbursed to support the maintenance of recognized ICH.,UNESCO has also created other intangible culture programs, such as a list called Proclamation of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.,An Illustration:,My ho

6、metowns Intangible Cultural Heritage,-Flower Drum Lantern,Flower Drum Lantern,Overview,Flower Drum Lantern, dubbed as the ballet of the east by Premier Zhou Enlai, is a folk art combining with singing and dancing, which started in Song Dynasty (960-1279) and prevailed at the end of Qing Dynasty (164

7、4-1911) and the beginning of the Republic of China (1912-1949).,The most distinguished one is in Huaiyuan on the two banks of the Huaihe River, Anhui Province. The ancient laborers would dance and sang during the nonagricultural season, certainly not for art but for relaxation or venting their emoti

8、ons.,These impromptu dancing and singing had been turned into Flower Drum Lantern in Song Dynasty, with dances, lantern songs and gongs and drums as the main elements.,Artistic style,Since it originated from the Huaihe River, where is situated in the south of the Yellow River and north of the Changj

9、iang River, the flower drum lantern gathered the northern and southern culture together, making the performance not only bold and candid but also gentle and lovely. Thus,combining the agricultural society civilization, collect aesthetics and understanding to the living,Manifestations,Generally, the

10、cast for the Flower Drum Lantern involves a band, performers and lightman.,As an important part in the performance, Gongs and drums will be beat according to the changes of scenes and stage lights. Featured passionate rhythm and strong artistic attraction, gongs and drums can beat solely sometimes,

11、while they should be combined with dances and performances when the stage lights change, served as accompaniment to enriching the emotion.,Dance is another important part in the Flower Drum Lantern, including the emotional dance by the whole group and performances mixing with dance, martial arts and

12、 acrobatics as well as impromptu dance drama by two or three people, highlighting the whole performance.,Manifestations,There are two expressive ways in the dance. One is the male dancers leading the female dancers to the stage and dancing with umbrella together, in the end a group dancing will be p

13、resented as the dance formation changes; the other is two or three dancers performing a simple dance drama with a plot of snatching handkerchief and wooden stool.,Flower Drum Lantern is a dance needed various skills, which requires the female dancers perform skillful poses at the male dancers should

14、ers, legs even hands, showing the masculine power of the male dancers as well as the soft and sprightly figures of the female dancers.,Songs from the Flower-drum Lantern are called Flower-drum Songs and come from the folk tunes of the banks of the Huaihe River. Music is the soul of Flower Drum Lante

15、rn, especially the rhythm of gongs and drums and the flower-drum songs, all highly enriched with artistic values.,Development,The Flower-drum Lantern was mainly prevalent in more than 20 counties and cities in northern Anhui Province, including Fengtai, Huaiyuan, Huainan and Bengbu. It took shape in

16、 the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty and gradually became popular in the Republic of China.,In the autumn of 1952, Feng Guopei, the head of Dongxiang village of Bengbu City, was invited to the Central Academy of Drama to teach the Flower-drum Lantern dance. In 1953, the Anhui team of the Flower-drum Lantern participated in Chinas first Music and Dance Joint Performance, causing a big stir across China.,At present, the Flower-drum Lantern has developed into a stage ar
