1、2014考研英语 高分基础 开学第一课 高分基础 开学第一课 宫东风宫东风 主讲主讲 沈 阳 宫东风英语教学团队编写 高等教育出版社版权所有 Unit 1 前言 再读一次大学 上大学 解放 混大学迟早要还的 80 后新生赵俊 再读一次大学 今年 27 岁 赵俊再一次迈入了大学校园 成为华东交通大学的一名大一新生 和其他新生不一样 的是 他已经拥有了一张某名牌大学的本科毕业证书 上了大学就等于解放了吗 7 年前 赵俊以优异的成绩考取了国内某名牌大学 大学里宽松的环境 让赵俊有了 上大学就等于 解放了 的错觉 赵俊说 那个时候的他自控能力相对较弱 遇到不会做的题目就搁置放弃 不会做的 题目越积越多
2、 本已不高的学习兴趣更是被网吧 酒场消磨殆尽 在网吧通宵上网 两三天不回寝室 在网络中迷失的赵俊成绩日渐下滑 不少课程相继亮起了红 灯 但他依旧选择了逃避 继续用网络麻醉自己 其实我自己对这种生活也感到很痛苦 赵俊说 大 学期间辅导员和他关系很好 但无论老师如何努力 都没能让他摆脱这种状况 直到现在 他都是我 特敬重的老师 终于 挣扎 到 2009 年 赵俊领到了自己的本科毕业证书 拿着一纸文凭 他却始终感觉自己还 没有毕业 大学 4 年都在混日子 得过且过 甚至都不知道自己的长处和短处是什么 这算毕业嘛 他嘲笑着自己 混大学给自己带来太多遗憾 毕业后 赵俊拥有了一份 还算不错 的工作 工作中
3、 赵俊发现自己的知识面非常狭窄 这让他 时常感到 很自卑 4 年的大学过得太颓废 留下了太多的遗憾 这种感觉在工作期间变得越发强烈 赵俊坦言 找 一份工作对他而言并不是什么问题 但 4 年大学生活的两手空空 是他始终放不下的一个心结 我的大学不该就这么度过 我的人生不能这样抱着遗憾走下去 就这样 赵俊心中萌生了再次考 大学的念头 为了补习高中知识 他在工作之余兼职做了一份家教 在教学的同时找回学习的感觉 两年后 经 过 深思熟虑 的他下定决心放弃工作 来到某中学跟着一群 90 后全身心地投入到复习备考中 不出 他所料 这个决定遭到了朋友 尤其是父母的强烈反对 1 宫东风英语教学团队编写 高等教
4、育出版社版权所有 那个时候跟家人闹得很僵 我最好的朋友也说我是精神病 赵俊的朋友中有的已为人父 而他 却要再读一次大学 这在熟识他的人眼中 无疑是一件匪夷所思的事情 为了让儿子 过上正常人的生活 赵俊的父母也下了很多工夫 光相亲就安排了 10 多次 赵俊 笑着说 其中也不乏让他心动的女生 但都被他一一谢绝了 补习的一年 赵俊坚持每天早晨 6 点钟起床 吼英语 学习到很晚才休息 我必须给自己的过去 一个交代 靠着这股倔劲儿 2012 年 7 月 他如愿收到了来自华东交通大学的录取通知书 这一次 一定要真正读一回大学 得知儿子再次考上了大学 赵俊的父母也被他的执著所感动 态度渐渐转变 开始支持他在
5、校安心 学习 朋友们也相继送来了祝福 上一次的大学 不能算作毕业 只有自己努力了 流点汗 流点血 有所收获才算毕业 拿到录 取通知书的赵俊 兴奋地提前 5 天就赶到学校报到 抵达学校的第二天 他就早早起床 吼 了大半 天的英语 我感到 现在才是读书的真正开始 两年的工作经历让赵俊清楚地认识到学习的重要性 取到崭新课本的当晚 他就只身一人来到自习 室预习 以前还真没发现上自习也可以这么快乐 让人心安 每天都有收获和进步的感觉很好 赵俊 笑着说 如果他不说自己是 1985 年生的 我们还以为他也是 90 后呢 在寝室里 赵俊和室友相处得和谐 愉快 丝毫没有代沟 看着身边比自己小近 10 岁的室友
6、赵俊感慨地说 一路走到现在 真的很不容 易 为了这一步 我放弃了太多 但我更是幸运的 赵俊说 这一次 他一定会好好珍惜机会 给自 己和父母一个交代 像个男人一样去面对 不再选择逃避生活 过真正的大学生活 Unknows come from knows to be the one finally to be there 未知来自已知 做真正的自己 这是赵 俊的 QQ 签名 也是他 4 年努力的方向 大学 4 年不能挂科 获得二等以上奖学金 考取研究生 大学 期间创业赚钱 争取出国 赵俊不仅为即将展开的大学学业做了详细的规划 还计划在 4 年里阅读大 量的书籍 并多参加一些课外活动 开阔视野 培养

8、lifications of age and literacy are equally competent to serve on juries that jurors should be selected randomly from a representative cross section of the community that no citizen should be denied the right to serve on a jury on account of race religion sex or national origin that defendants are e
9、ntitled to trial by their peers and that verdicts should represent the conscience of the community and not just the letter of the law The jury is also said to be the best surviving example of direct rather than representative democracy In a direct democracy citizens take turns governing themselves r
10、ather than electing representatives to govern for them But as recently as in 1968 jury selection procedures conflicted with these democratic ideals In some states for example jury duty was limited to persons of supposedly superior intelligence education and moral character Although the Supreme Court
11、 of the United States had prohibited intentional racial discrimination in jury selection as early as the 1880 case of Strauder v West Virginia the practice of selecting so called elite or blue ribbon juries provided a convenient way around this and other antidiscrimination laws The system also faile
12、d to regularly include women on juries until the mid 20th century Although women first served on state juries in Utah in 1898 it was not until the 1940s that a majority of states made women eligible for jury duty Even then several states automatically exempted women from jury duty unless they person
13、ally asked to have their names included on the jury list This practice was justified by the claim that women were needed at home and it kept juries unrepresentative of women through the 1960s In 1968 the Congress of the United States passed the Jury Selection and Service Act ushering in a new era of
14、 democratic reforms for the jury This law abolished special educational requirements for federal jurors and required them to be selected at random from a cross section of the entire community In the landmark 1975 decision Taylor v Louisiana the Supreme Court extended the requirement that juries be r
