3、soneofthe“Hunsgraves,”andothersonlycontainingroomenoughtoholdthreeorfourmen.Itwasnotquitedark;thenorthernlightsshotforthredandblueflames,likecontinuousfireworks,andthesnowglittered,andreflectedbackthelight,sothatthenightherewasonelongtwilight.Whenthemoonwasbrightest,thenativescameincrowdstoseethesai

4、lors.Theyhadaverysingularappearanceintheirrough,hairydressesoffur,andridinginsledgesovertheice.Theybroughtwiththemfursandskinsingreatabundance,sothatthesnow-housesweresoonprovidedwithwarmcarpets,andthefursalsoservedforthesailorstowrapthemselvesin,whentheysleptundertheroofsofsnow,whileoutsideitwasfre

5、ezingwithacoldfarmoreseverethaninthewinterwithus.Inourcountryitwasstillautumn,thoughlateintheseason;andtheythoughtofthatintheirdistantexile,andoftenpicturedtothemselvestheyellowleavesonthetreesathome.Theirwatchespointedtothehoursofevening,andtimetogotosleep,althoughintheseregionsitwasnowalwaysnight.
