2、Instructions for identifying Key Design Quality Characteristics Instructions for handling the Pentagon symbol which is already in place on prints CATIA files Preliminary Process Sheets PPS Automated Manufacturing Planning System AMPS etc for carryover components systems assemblies tools and or gages
3、 Instructions on how to place Diamond symbols on CATIA Models drawings Engineering Graphic Overviews and AMPS Responsibilities for DaimlerChrysler Corporation and Supplier organizations regarding Diamond characteristics This standard establishes The Diamond symbol be used to designate Key Design Qua
4、lity Characteristics of parts components or assemblies A means of identifying those CATIA Models drawings Engineering Graphic Overviews Preliminary Process Sheets and AMPS that include Diamond characteristics Control Plans or the equivalent be developed for each part characteristic designated by a D
5、iamond symbol Instructions for utilization of the Diamond symbol on all new tool fixture and gage drawings This includes associated procedures for characteristics requiring special consideration during Design Verification Production Validation or Revalidation This standard also documents that PS 833
6、5 the Pentagon Standard has been superceded by PS 7300 1 2 Purpose of the Process To establish that Key Design Quality Characteristics are toleranced measurable part component assembly or system characteristics that may cause failure to meet customer satisfaction specifications due to susceptibility
7、 to manufacturing assembly and or test fixture variation and therefore require special attention to guarantee acceptable results PS 7300 Change D Page 2 The Diamond symbol or is used to designate Key Design Quality Characteristics and optionally if the Engineering Source Documents have the Diamond d
8、esignation listed their subsequent downstream controlling process characteristics Diamonds can also be used to identify measurable characteristics in engineering standards that are issued to ensure the production process produces a finished product that meets customer requirements and design specifi
9、cations The Diamond is intended to alert those involved in the manufacture and or assembly of products that the designated process is a Key Design Quality Characteristic and that Control Plans or equivalent Standard Work Instructions SWI or Process Control Charts are required to define inspection pr
10、ocedures 1 3 Coverage of this Standard This standard does not apply to characteristics of components and or systems specifically covered by the Shield symbol 2 0 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS All new designs shall be assessed as to the need for Diamonds All carryover designs shall be reviewed for relevan
11、cy of existing Diamonds and additional need if any Diamonds are placed on CATIA models Engineering Graphic Overviews drawings Preliminary Process Sheets AMPS and or Engineering Standards to alert those involved in the manufacture and or assembly of products that Control Planning is required and that
12、 inspection procedures are defined in a Control Plan or equivalent It is mandatory that those Diamonds that affect DCC vehicle assembly or manufacturing operations shall be placed on Preliminary Process Sheets and AMPS Application of a Diamond to a Key Design Quality Characteristic mandates that the
13、 inspection method sample size and frequency be documented in a Control Plan as defined by the Product Assurance Plan PAP or equivalent to a Control Plan It does not indicate where or how measurements should be made to determine compliance nor does it automatically require the use of Statistical Pro
14、cess Control SPC The Control Plan or its equivalent is the governing document as to the methodology of compliance in response to a Diamond designation 3 0 SELECTION CRITERIA Diamonds should be applied judiciously to toleranced measurable characteristics that will cause a part or assembly to fail to
15、meet customer satisfaction specifications in the following areas if tolerances are not maintained Important function or appearance features Key fit and finish characteristics Buzz squeak and rattle concerns Important reliability considerations Items covered by extended warranties and durability goal
16、s Important requirements detailed in an Engineering Standard A Diamond is applied to a specific dimensioned feature or functional requirement that is toleranced and measurable and in the judgement of the Product Assurance Team requires special attention to guarantee that the manufacturing and or assembly processes will produce required function feature PS 7300 Change D Page 3 Characteristics should not be designated by a Diamond except when special attention is required to ensure conformance to
