The three young men compete with each other for the job.2. take part in 参加;参与辨析 take part in, join和join in加入某党派、某组织或某社会团体,用join。join in多指参加小规模的活动如球赛、游戏等,常用于口语。若表达“与某人一

3、起做某事”,则用join sb. in sth. / doing sth.take part in多指参加(群众性活动、会议等),往往指参加者持积极态度,起一份作用。Eg. May I take part in the game? Let us join the children in the game Come and join us in the discussion.3.stand for 代表;象征;支持Stand on ones own feet 独立Stand against 反对;对抗Stand out 引人注目;脱颖而出Stand by 袖手旁观;无动于衷 -stand by

The homework is checked on a regular basis.6. admit v. 接受;承认 admit 意为“准许加入组织或参加某个活动”,时,常用被动语态be admitted as.作为.被接受be admitted to/i

5、nto.被允许、接纳进入admit 表示“承认;赞同”时,后可接名词、动名词或that从句。Eg. I admit that your advice is reasonable.7. as well as (除了.)也,又,还as well 在句中常作状语。May/might/could(just) as well do sth “做什么也无妨;倒不如做某事”Eg. If no one else wants it, we might as well give it to him.not only.but also “不但而且”,可与as well as 互换,但需注意:as well as强调

6、前者,连接两个主语时,谓语动词同前面的名词一致,not only.but also强调后者,连接两个主语时,谓语动词采取就近原则。Eg. She is a student as well as a writer.=She is not only a writer but also a student.8. host v. 主办;举办;主持 n. 主人;主持人hostess n. 女主人a host/hosts of 大群的;大批的;许多eg. Hosts of people gathered at the meeting yesterday.9. responsibility n. 责任;职责

7、;责任感-responsible adj. 有责任的;负责的responsibility 意为“责任,责任感:时,看做不可数名词;意为”职责,任务,负担:时,看做可数名词,后常接介词for.bear assume responsibility for “承担.的责任”10. replace v. 替代;替换;取代eg. The door was broken so we replaced it with a new one.replace sb./sth. =take the place of sb/sth=take ones place “代替.(的位置)”;take ones place

8、=take ones seat “就座,入席,各就各位”in place of 替代take place “发生”,为不及物动词词组,五被动语态。三、Sentence structures1. 10、films at weekends.2. -How often do you hold your Games?-Every four years.every + 数词,表示“每”;every 与数词或few, other连用,表示时间或空间的间隔。every + 基数词 + 复数名词,“每”;every + 序数词 + 单数可数名词,“每”;every + other + 单数可数名词,“每隔”;every + few + 复数名词,“每隔几”;eg. (1)He comes to see his uncle every third week.(2)Some of you go back ho
