Talking can not stop natural disasters from happening. But talking can help children feel safer and less afraid of the fut

2、ure. Here are five things adults can do when children show fear of natural disasters.First, adults should be willing to talk with children. When children are allowed to talk about their fears, they feel safer. Sometimes, the best thing an adult can do is just listen. Whatever the fear, it is importa

3、nt to listen and be patient with the child.Second, let children ask questions. When answering their questions, it is best to give short, honest answers. If you do not know the answer, you can be honest and say that you do not know.Third, it is important to wait until a child is ready to talk about a

4、 natural disaster. Adults should not force children to talk.Fourth, help children feel safe. There are many ways to do this. One way is very simple: adults can tell frightened children that they love them. It is also important for children to do the same things they do every day. Simple things like

But the one million people of the city, who thought little of these events, were asleep as usual that night.At 3:42 am everything began to shake. It seemed as if the world was

10、at an end! Eleven kilometres directly below the city one of the greatest earthquakes of the 20th century had begun. It was felt in Beijing, which is more than two hundred kilometres away. Onethird of the nation felt it. A huge crack that was eight kilometres long and thirty metres wide cut across ho

11、uses, roads and canals. Steam burst from holes in the ground. Hard hills of rock became rivers of dirt. In fifteen terrible seconds a large city lay in ruins. The suffering of the people was extreme. Twothirds of them died or were injured during the earthquake. Thousands of families were killed and

12、many children were left without parents.
