Martin 于上世纪 90 年代提出评价理论（即评价系统） ， 它既是对韩礼德的功能语法理论中人际意义的拓展，也是一个用于研究语篇中评价 资源的新兴理论框架。实质上，它是对系统功能语言学的新发展。评价系统的中
2、心 是“系统” ，焦点是“评价” 。评价系统包含态度、介入和级差三个子系统。其中态 度子系统是核心，由情感、判断和鉴赏三个次系统组成。语言在评价系统中只是一 种手段，目的在于把语言使用者（即说话者）对事态的立场、观点和态度通过对语 言的分析来进行评价，属于阐释性研究。它能够表示情绪、态度和评价这些人际意 义资源，以及这些价值的详细分级，并同时反映语篇和作者声音的语言资源，是一 套相对而言还比较新的语言研究系统。评价理论的特点就在于它是从词汇角度而不 是从语法角度去研究评价性话语/语篇。 本文选取了美国总统奥巴马 2009 年 1 月至 2010 年 9 月期间的 30 篇政治演讲的 开场白，结
3、合了描述性和解释性两种研究方法对所选语料进行分析。本论文旨在通 过考察语篇中的态度意义资源来分析美国总统奥巴马的政治演讲开场白中各种态度 意义的表现特点以及其产生这些特点的原因。之所以选择美国总统奥巴马的演讲， 是因其演讲的巨大感染力以及总统的政治演讲作为时代语言载体，会蕴涵丰富的态 度意义资源。 关键词关键词：开场白 评价理论 态度系统 华 中 科 技 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文 华 中 科 技 大 学 硕 士 学 位 论 文 I Abstract In this thesis, a tentative study of the attitudinal resources in the
4、opening remarks of political speeches delivered by American President Barack Obama is made in the framework of appraisal theory. In the early 1990s, Australian linguist J.R. Martin first introduced The Appraisal Theory, which is a newly extension on theory of interpersonal meaning in Systemic Functi
5、onal Grammar, and is also a slightly newly developed theoretical framework. The theory focuses on evaluative resources in texts. It develops the Systemic Functional Linguistics. Three basic systems - Attitude, Graduation and Engagement constitutes the Appraisal Theory. It gives priority to evaluatio
6、n rather than achieved by lexical grammar. According to Martin, the Appraisal Theory is composed of the system of Attitude, Graduation and Engagement. And attitude system is the vital one in this theory, which are categorized into three sub-systems - Affect, Judgment and Appreciation. This research
7、conducts a descriptive methodology combined with interpretation to analyze the data - 30 opening remarks in the political speeches delivered by President Obama. Within the theoretical framework of Appraisal Theory, a descriptive analysis is worked, aiming to analyze the corpus, summarizing the commo
8、n features of the ways of expressing attitude meanings and explaining the reasons at the sametime. The 30 opening remarks of President Obamas speeches during January, 2009 to September, 2010 are chosen as the corpus for the present research because the political speeches chosen here are discourses o
9、f the time that have distinctive historical features and must be a rich resources of attitudinal resources. Since the birth of Systemic Functional Grammar, scholars
12、 have studied it in many aspects. Systemic Functional Linguistics provides us a good tool to analyse discourse from the aspect of language functions. Halliday (1994) has claimed that language is structured to make three kinds of meanings simultaneously, i.e.experiential meaning, interpersonal meanin
13、g and textual meaning. Interpersonal meaning refers to the meaning of language so that people can participate communication acts with others, express their own feelings and understand mutual emotions. However, as an acclaimed useful tool for discourse analysis, interpersonal meaning fails on explain
14、ing the evaluative interpersonal meaning systemically. And unquestionably, Appraisal System which set up by Martin is the most effective analysis framework yet. It became more and more popular in both English and Chinese language fields since 2000. Many scholars applied it on various genres study fr
15、om different aspects. And academic conferences, activities concerning Appraisal Theory also increased yearly. Appraisal System, which was expounded by scholars from different perspectives, has been widely used in a variety of discourse analysis of interpersonal meaning. Peter R.R.White established a
16、 website for scholars and enthusiasts of Appraisal Theory to communicate and discuss. All these studies and activities have greatly enriched the system of Appraisal, expanded the application scope of Appraisal Theory. Appraisal Theory is one of the three major discourse semantic resources construing interpersonal meaning. The theory itself is of three sub-systems
