1、Translation of Sentences 肯定否定 转换 w汉英语言在表达肯定否定概念时，形成了各自 独特的表达方式。叙述一件事情，可以正说， 也可以反说。有时，汉语的正说在英语里反说 更合适，而汉语的反说可能会更符合英语中正 说的表达习惯。 （1） 汉语正说，英语反译 w他光着脚进了屋子。 wHe entered the room with no shoes on. w那个房间总是关着的。 wThe windows of that room were never open. （2） 汉语反说，英语反译 w汉语用“无、不、没、未、别、休、莫、非 、勿、毋”等词表示“全部否定”的概念，英
2、语 中可用no，not，none，nobody，no one， nothing，nor，neither，nowhere等词以及加 否定前缀im- 、in- 、ir- 、non- 、un- 和 否定后缀 -less等来对应翻译。 w学习外语离不开好的词典。 wA good dictionary is indispensable for learning a foreign language. w他的大脑在事故中受伤，无法治愈。 wHe suffered irreversible brain damage in the incident. w汉语用“决不、永不、从不”表示“绝对否定” 的概念，在英
3、语中可用never, not at all，by no means，in no way，under no circumstances等进行对译。 w在任何情况下我们都不应放弃希望。 Under no circumstances should we give up our hope. w这东西我一点儿都不喜欢。 I didnt enjoy it at all. w 汉语用“并非总是”、“不是太”表示“部分否 定”的概念，在英语中可用not every，not all ，not much，not many，not always等短语 进行对译。 w不是每个人都能把自己的工作做好。 wNot eve
4、ry one can do his own job well. w发光的不都是金子。 wAll that glitters is not gold. w最近我收到的邮件不太多。 wI havent received much mail recently. w 汉语用“几乎不、很少”表示“半否定”的概念 ，在英语中可用barely，hardly，rarely， scarcely，seldom等半否定词进行对译。 w家里几乎没有什么煤了。 wThere is hardly any coal left in the house. w我们不常出门。 wWe seldom go out. （3） 汉语反
5、说，英语正译 w英语中有一类含有否定意义的词，它们形式上是肯 定的，但意义是否定的，在翻译汉语否定句时，可 直接使用，而不必再加否定助词no，not等。此类英 语词包括： w动词avoid，deny，doubt，escape，exclude，fail ，ignore，keep.from，lack，miss，refuse， refrain from，remove from，neglect，overlook， save等； w名词absence，exclusion，exception，failure， ignorance，lack，neglect，refusal等； w连词unless，till，
6、until，lest，but等； w介词（短语）above，before，beneath（notice） ，beyond（belief），past，except，excluding， without，but for, in place of，instead of，out of， in vain等； w形容词（短语）absent from，blind to（one s faults），dead to（shame），far from，free from （anxiety），few，ignorant，little，new，strange ，safe from，short of（the mark）,m
7、ore than等； w副词（短语）little，otherwise，too.to等。 w她忍住了没有笑出声。 wShe refrained from laughing. w花园根本无人整理。 wThe garden was in a state of total neglect. w我不能忍受你的脾气。 wYour temper is more than I can bear. w他宁死不屈。 wHe would die before yielding. w生活远非净是乐事。 wLife is far from being a bed of roses. w风景美得无以言表。 wThe sc

9、ot because wNotmore wHalf, nearly, possible 和 not 用在一起时 wNot nearly根本不像 wcould not possibly用来加强语气，不能译为“ 不可能”。 （4） 双重否定的使用 w汉语和英语中都可以用“双重否定”来表示“肯 定”，用以加强语气， w汉译英时可采取“否定词+but/without w”等方式处理。 w所有规则都有例外。 wThere is no rule but has exceptions. w没有你的帮助，我是不会按时完成这一工作 的。 wBut for your help, I should not have
