It is also a famous mountain worshipped(尊敬、崇拜) by Buddhists in China. Hengshan h
2、as 72 peaks and extends 150 kilometers. The highest peak of the mountain is called Zhurong Peak, 1,290 meters above the sea level. The mountain has many temples, among which the biggest is the Nanyue Temple, which covers an area of 100,000 square meters and which is the largest group of ancient buil
3、dings in Hunan province. The temple has nine courtyards and the main hall is 22 meters high, supported by 72 stone pillars, which symbolize the 72 peaks of the mountain. On the top, Watching Sunrise Platform is the best scenic spots. As early as 2,000 years ago, many emperors and celebrities visited

6、(宽广的). 7000 stone stairs which runs 9 kilometers long through the mountain from the foot to the zenith(顶峰) looks like the axes(轴线) of Mount Tai . Since ancient time, Mount Tai is recognized as holy and sacred(神圣的) Mountain. Confucians and Taoists coexist (和平共处 )harmoniously on the mountain. And civi

Shaolin Temple was established in 495A.D. at the western foot of Songshan Mountain, 13 kilometers northwest to Dengfeng City. The then Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei dynasty (386-557) had the temple built to accommodate the Indian master Batuo.
