1、河南大学 硕士学位论文 体育隐喻理解机制研究 姓名：吴钦 申请学位级别：硕士 专业：英语语言文学 指导教师：刘辰诞 2011-03 V 摘 要 千百年来，隐喻一直是学者们热衷的一个话题。无论是作为一种使用频繁的修辞手 段，还是作为人类的一种思维方式，无处不在的隐喻都有着很高的研究价值。现代的隐 喻研究已呈现出一种精细化的趋势，一些学者们先后从不同的角度研究过政治隐喻、经 济隐喻、军事隐喻、建筑隐喻和艺术隐喻。然而，鲜有学者关注语言中丰富且极具特色 的体育隐喻。基于此，本文将体育隐喻作为研究对象。 体育隐喻不仅广泛地存在于体育领域， 而且大量地渗透到了人们日常生活的各个方 面。随着体育的迅猛发展
2、，以及体育与人们日常生活的联系日益紧密，体育隐喻在体育 语言和日常表达中的作用与重要性也越来越突出。然而，有些体育隐喻给一些体育语言 和日常表达的理解制造了障碍。譬如： (1) Free agency with no salary cap awaits ambitious NFL owners. (2) The government scored an own goal with its harsh treatment of single parent. (3) 辛普利西奥成功完成了中场“清道夫”的角色。 (4) 顶级赞助商踢出“世界波” ，三大赞助商盈亏盘点。 鉴于此，本文拟从“外延内涵传承
3、”这一新的角度出发，对体育隐喻的理解机制做 出一些尝试性的探讨，期望能够为体育隐喻的理解提供一条可行的途径。 这一研究的理论基础是徐盛桓教授提出的“外延内涵传承说” 。 “外延内涵传承说” 是基于格式塔心理学、常规关系、分类逻辑和类层级结构等理论发展而来的一种新的学 说。该理论从概念的外延与和内涵角度出发，探讨了“A is B”这类修辞表达的生成和 理解机制，为隐喻、转喻、拟人、委婉语等修辞手段的研究提供了一个新的范式。 本文将“外延内涵传承说”应用于体育隐喻理解机制的研究中，并对基于这一理论 提出的隐喻分析框架进行了两点补充，增添了影响“传承”关系选择和体育隐喻理解的 语境因素，并将传承过程
4、中的关键步骤新范畴的抽象过程予以突显。在运用新框架分析 体育隐喻理解机制的过程中，首先对体育隐喻中概念的外延和内涵进行分解，据语境捕 捉所需要的涵项，然后通过常规关系和一系列的格式塔转换，抽象出一个新的范畴，并 建立起目标域、始源域以及新范畴之间的外延和内涵“传承”关系，使体育隐喻获得有 VI 效、充分地理解。这一过程完整地呈现在了新框架的内层级结构网络中。 除此之外，为了加深对体育隐喻的认识，更好地分析体育隐喻，本文还讨论了使用 体育隐喻的动因，并对体育隐喻做了一些分类。 基于体育隐喻理解机制的研究，本文主要有如下几点发现： 一、除了体育语言中的隐喻外，体育隐喻还应包括人们日常表达中使用的，
5、与体育 活动相关的隐喻表达，如： “the front runner” 、 “move the goalposts” 、 “擦边球” 、 “坐（冷） 板凳”等。这类常为人们所忽视的体育隐喻，不仅与人们生活的各个方面关系密切，还 在一定程度上反映了人类的一种思维方式“借助另一事物来理解和体验某事物” ，如： “Life is a journey” 、 “Love is a marathon” 、 “人生如棋”等。 二、由于频繁使用，一些体育隐喻逐渐变成了常规隐喻，成为人们熟知的普通语言 表达，如： “beat” 、 “season” 、 “triumph” 、 “赛程” 、 “主场” 、 “客场
6、”等。因为这些常规 体育隐喻很容易领会， 它们的理解机制往往为人们所忽略。 借助于体育隐喻的分析框架， 此类体育隐喻内“隐蔽”的外延和内涵“传承”关系也可以被呈现出来。 三、人们对一个体育隐喻的理解程度，不仅受到解释者所选择的“传承”关系的影 响，还取决于其识别的“传承”关系的多寡。同一体育隐喻，理解过程中选择的“传承” 关系不同，其理解的效果肯定也有差异。此外，一些体育隐喻可以通过概念间外延和内 涵的一次传承，就得到充分理解，而另一些体育隐喻的完全理解则需要两次或更多的传 承。简而言之，只有发现足够多的符合逻辑与常识的“传承”关系，才能保证体育隐喻 获得透彻的理解。 总之，这篇论文的意义在于
7、，首先，本文对学者们很少关注的体育隐喻进行了一定 的研究，并为体育隐喻的理解提供了一个可行的分析框架。其次，本文丰富了隐喻研究 的内容，拓宽了体育隐喻的研究范围。最后，对体育隐喻理解的研究可以帮助人们更好 地欣赏、参与体育活动，而且还有助于丰富日常语言的内容和表达方式。 关键词：体育隐喻，理解机制，传承，外延，内涵 I ABSTRACT Metaphor has been a hot topic in many scholars schedules for thousands of years. Whether as a frequently employed rhetoric device
8、or being taken for a way of human being thinking, the omnipresent metaphor is of great research significance. The present researches on metaphor tend to be done in more specific fields. Politics metaphor, economy metaphor, military metaphor, architecture metaphor, and art metaphor have been discusse
9、d from different angles. However, few scholars pay any attention to sports metaphor that is very abundant and characteristic in language. Therefore, sports metaphor is chosen as the research object of the current study. Not only does sports metaphor pervasively exist in the sports field, but also pe
10、netrates into every aspect of peoples daily life in large quantities. Owing to the rapid development of sports and the intimate relation between sports and peoples daily life, sports metaphor plays more and more important roles both in sports language and peoples everyday expression. However, severa

12、踢出“世界波” ，三大赞助商盈亏盘点。 Thus, the current study intends to make a tentative exploration of interpretation mechanism of sports metaphor from a new perspective of “Inheritance of Denotation-Connotation”, and expects to provide a workable means to the comprehension of sports metaphor. II The theoretical fo
13、undation of the current study is Professor Xus Inheritance of Denotation-Connotation, which develops on the basis of Gestalt Theory, Stereotypical Relations, Logic of Taxonomy, and Type Hierarchy Structure. The theory has explored the production and interpretation mechanisms of rhetoric expressions
14、as “A is B” from the perspective of denotation and connotation, and it offers a new model to the studies of metaphor, metonymy, personification, euphemism and so on. The current study applies Inheritance of Denotation-Connotation into the studies of the interpretation mechanism of sports metaphor，an
15、d makes two supplements to the metaphor analytical framework underlying the theoretical foundation, namely, the factor of context is added, and the crucial procedure of inheritance, the abstraction of a new category is made prominent. In the analyses of interpretation process of sports metaphor, the
16、 denotations and connotations of involved concepts are decomposed as required at first. Then the proper connotations are selected in accordance with the specific context. According to the Stereotypical Relations and a series of gestalt transformations, a new category is introduced, and the inheritance of denotation and connotation among source domain, target domain and the new category is recognized and established. In such a manner, sports metaphor is effectively and fully understood.
