1、Review of the Norwegian StudyDuring our English class on Monday, we have read a passage named of the Norwegian Study about the divorce rates of couples who share the housework in Norway. To tell you the truth, this passage has impressed me so much. Above all, the passage is mainly about a study rela
2、ted to divorce rates, which are far higher among modern couples who share the housework than in those where the woman does the lions share of the chores. Particularly, as Thomas Hansen, co-author of the study, said in his paper entitled Equality in the Home : What weve seen is that shouldering equal
3、 responsibility for work in the home doesnt necessarily contribute to contentment. Whats more, the co-author suggested that the deeper reasons for the higher divorce rate came from their modern values. Generally speaking, from this passage, it seems to me that it is modern values that results in hig
4、h divorce rates, rather than gender equality. In fact, I accept this opinion showed in the study. By the way, in modern couples, women also have a high level of education and a well-paid job, which makes them less dependent on their spouse financially. Thus, they can manage much easier if they divor
5、ce. As we know, Norway has a long tradition of gender equality and child rearing is shared equally between mothers and fathers in 70 per cent of cases. In addition, under the premise of gender equality, I emphasize that we should be well prepared for our marriage. Or rather, what is not advocated that we get married before we know each other very well and are ready to shoulder the responsibility that marriage brings us. In a word, we surely expect a happy marriage rather than divorce.
